/Marik's (12 years old at this point) POV/ I flipped the page of my book of ancient scriptures and sighed. I hated studying... It was so dull and boring. I closed that stupid book and rested my head on the wooden desk. *I wish I wasn't a tomb keeper... Then I could live a fun life up there with the surface dwellers...* I thought solemnly. "MARIK!!" my father's loud, thundering voice called. I quickly scrammbled out of my chair and rushed out of my small bedroom. I had learned in my twelve years of existance (the hard way) to never disobey Father... and to never ever make him have to call me twice. I entered his study, which was more like a library, and saw him sitting at the large table. I knelt down at his feet and kept my head down. "Yes, sir?" I heard Father stand up. "You know you are my only son, and the heir to the tomb keepers..." he said in his deep, cold voice. I nodded. "Yes... but Isis and Rishid are your children too, if you'll give me pardon for saying so..." I said timidly. "RISHID IS NOT MY CHILD!! AND YOUR ELDER SISTER IS NOT INVOLVED IN THIS!! KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!" he thundered, making my body tremble in fear. "I am sorry, Father! Please forgive me!" I groveled. "Anyway..." he continued, "You are my firstborn son, and my one true heir... and someday you will have to produce an heir as well to continue our line of tomb keepers who watch over the Pharaoh's tomb." My stomach somersaulted. "So, I have arranged for you to marry a young girl by the name of ~~~~. She is a member of another clan of tomb keepers, and your age. She will be arriving tomorrow for your wedding." I gasped in shock. "Me?! Get married!!?? But I'm only 12!!" I protested. My father shot me an evil glare. "I don't care how old you are! You will do as I tell you, and I am telling you that you are to marry ~~~~!!" he yelled. He then grabbed the front of my beige garment and jerked me up to his eye level. My feet dangled off the ground and I gagged as the collar of my garment choked me. "Do you understand?" he growled, his eyes burning my insides. I struggled to keep from choking to death, and nodded. "Y-yes... father..." I wheezed. Father dropped me and I hit the ground with a THUD!! My knees seared with pain. He returned to his seat. "Now, be gone..." he commanded. I forced myself up and limped out of his study. This was just perfect! I did not want to get married yet!! I wanted to get out of this place and make a real life for myself! Getting married was once the furthest thing from my mind, but now it's the only thing I could think about. *Dammit!* I cursed in my head as I entered my room. I saw my sister, Isis, sitting on my bed. "Hey, Marik. What did Father want?" she asked. I sat down in my desk chair and huffed. "I have to get married tomorrow... to some dumb girl I don't even know!" I complained. Isis giggled. "Aw! Don't be so bitter, brother! Maybe you'll grow to like this girl!" she said. I quirked an eyebrow at her. "I severly doubt it..." I turned away from her and banged my head on the desk. "My life sucks..." I grumbled. Isis got off the bed and put her hands on my shoulders. "I know you don't like being a tomb keeper... but we must all do our duties to protect the Pharaoh's tomb." I rolled my eyes. *Then why can't someone else do it...*
